A heartbreaking abandonment and a fight for survival

When Bridget was found tied up just inside the gates of our Birmingham Centre in Solihull, our team knew immediately that something wasn’t right.
She had been cruelly abandoned, left alone, frightened, and vulnerable.
From her condition, it was clear Bridget had likely been used for breeding and kept in very poor conditions. She is an older girl, with sores on her elbows consistent with lying on hard flooring for long periods. Our team believe she has had multiple litters in her lifetime.
And when she was no longer “useful”, she was cast aside.
A Glimmer of Hope
On her first full day with us, Bridget seemed to be in good spirits. She was eating, drinking, and gently leaning into the cuddles our team offered. After everything she had endured, she was still trusting, still kind.
We allowed ourselves to feel hopeful.
A Devastating Discovery
But that hope was short-lived.
The following morning, Bridget deteriorated quickly. She became lethargic, unable to lift her head, and clearly in distress. Our veterinary team were urgently called.
What they discovered shocked us all.
Bridget still had a puppy inside her.
Our vets had no choice but to assist her in delivering the pup. Heartbreakingly, the puppy did not survive. The veterinary team believe Bridget would likely have given birth before she was abandoned at our gates.
This situation was not only traumatic, it was life-threatening. Had Bridget not been found when she was, she may not have survived.
We are also left deeply concerned about the possibility of other puppies she may have already delivered before being dumped.
Fighting for Bridget
This has shaken our entire team.
Bridget is a gentle, friendly girl who did not deserve any of this. Seeing her so poorly is incredibly hard for those caring for her.
She remains a very poorly dog and has a long road ahead. Our veterinary team and carers continue to monitor her closely, providing round-the-clock care, pain relief, warmth, nutrition and the comfort she should always have known.
You may notice in her photos that our team are wearing full PPE. This is not because Bridget is untouchable, far from it. We take quarantine extremely seriously to ensure no illness or disease can spread to the other dogs in our care. She is still receiving cuddles, gentle strokes and soft reassurance, we are simply protecting every dog at our centre.
What Happens Next?
At the time of writing (Feb 2026), Bridget is still very poorly. Our team are doing everything possible to give her the best chance of recovery.

For now, we ask that you keep Bridget in your thoughts.
Because no dog deserves to be discarded when they are no longer profitable.
And no dog should have to fight for her life alone.
Bridget isn’t alone anymore – she has us and she has you.
