1 year and 2 months old French Bulldog Cross.
Arrived to us in July 2024 after being abandoned and found as a stray. When she arrived at the Wolverhampton centre, she was showing signs of discomfort, and was transferred over to the Birmingham Dogs Home Vet Clinic in Solihull. The Vet Team soon realised Cactus was suffering with an infected uterus and needed emergency surgery as her life hung in the balance. Cactus luckily was saved by the Vet Team and spent time recovering with the Vets before moving back over to her kennel in Wolverhampton.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the end of Cactus’s trip to the Vets as soon after she developed a ‘Dry Eye’ which is more common in flat faced dogs such as French Bulldogs. This condition can usually be treated with a simple operation. Unfortunately for Cactus her eye didn’t heal after surgery and had to be removed.
Brachycephalic (or flat faced dogs) such as French Bulldogs often have very small and narrow nostrils which can make breathing difficult and noisy. After Cactus had recovered from her other surgeries the Vet Team also thought BOAS surgery (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) would help her live a more comfortable life, long term. The operation was successful, and Cactus’s nostrils were widened to help her breath more comfortably.
Cactus has been through a huge amount in her young life and is now currently on foster with a member of the Birmingham Dogs Home team whilst she recovers and begins the journey to find her fur-ever home.
