When Truman arrived at our Wolverhampton Centre, it was a moment our team will never forget.
This gentle Lurcher had been tied to a bus stop and left. When he was brought into our care, he was in an appalling condition, severely emaciated, covered in sores, and clearly suffering from long-term neglect. Even for a team who see heartbreak far too often, Truman’s condition stopped us in our tracks.
He had been let down in the worst possible way.
Despite everything he had endured, Truman showed no anger. No fear. Instead, he greeted us with quiet gentleness and, incredibly, a wagging tail.
Emergency Care
Our team acted immediately.
Truman received urgent veterinary attention, was wrapped in a warm coat, and placed on a carefully managed feeding plan. When a dog is this underweight, feeding must be introduced slowly and safely, too much food too quickly can cause serious complications. He began receiving six small meals a day under close supervision, alongside pain relief, wound care, and round-the-clock monitoring.

From day one, he showed us what a kind and loving boy he truly is.
The Road to Recovery
Truman is now doing well, but he still has a long way to go.
He remains under veterinary supervision and has begun receiving laser therapy treatment to help his wounds heal more effectively. This advanced treatment supports tissue repair and helps reduce discomfort as his body continues to recover from prolonged neglect.
To give him the calm, comfort and one-to-one care he deserves, Truman is currently in a loving foster home. There, he is being treated like royalty, enjoying warmth, soft bedding, gentle routines, and plenty of cuddles.
Those who meet him quickly fall in love. He is sweet, clever, and incredibly affectionate, a true cuddle monster with a heart of gold.
Why Truman’s Story Matters
Truman’s story is sadly not an isolated one.
Across the West Midlands, we are seeing a significant increase in neglect cases. More dogs are arriving at our doors in desperate need of medical care, rehabilitation and safety. Our teams work tirelessly to give each dog the second chance they deserve, but this work relies entirely on the support of our community.
