Meet Mika!
Mika has been in our care since March 2025 and we’re all hoping that her special person is just around the corner. She’s a wonderfully sweet girl who simply needs someone willing to see past her nervous first impression and give her the time she needs to shine.
When you first meet Mika she can be very shy and unsure of new people. If she doesn’t know you she’ll often choose to keep her distance sometimes hiding away or giving a nervous growl to let you know she’s feeling overwhelmed. The best way to win Mika over is to let her come to you in her own time armed with a few tasty treats and plenty of patience. She can also do little nervous or submissive wees if approached too quickly or when she’s feeling especially excited so a calm gentle approach is essential.
The wonderful thing about Mika is just how much she blossoms once she trusts you. Give her a day or two and you’ll be greeted by a completely different dog: excited to see you bouncing around happily and asking for attention. She absolutely loves a good bum scratch and will happily seek out affection from the people she knows. She’s a clever girl too responding to her name and already knowing how to sit give a paw and wait patiently while her harness is put on.
Once she’s comfortable Mika’s playful personality really comes to life. She loves to run around with her toys especially anything that squeaks! She’ll have a brief go at tug but it’s not really her game she much prefers zooming around proudly carrying her favourite toy instead.
Mika is looking for a home with children aged 16 and over although this may be considered for younger calm dog-savvy children who understand that she’ll need space and time to settle.
Mika cannot live with other dogs. She finds them overwhelming and can be very strong if she sees one while out on a walk. Because of this she is muzzle trained and this is something her new family will need to continue. Her muzzle is simply another tool to help keep everyone safe while allowing her to enjoy her walks. We’ve found that she’s made excellent progress with careful handling and positive experiences including settling well for veterinary visits and introductions with new people when given time and support.
Mika is also on a long-term hypoallergenic diet which is readily available from most pet shops and online retailers making it easy for her new family to continue her care.
Mika isn’t looking for perfection she’s looking for understanding. She needs a home that will let her settle at her own pace celebrate every little milestone and appreciate the incredible fun-loving girl waiting underneath her nervous exterior.
After spending so long in kennels we’d love nothing more than to see Mika finally enjoying the comfort of a home where she feels safe loved and accepted for exactly who she is. If you have patience kindness and a soft spot for the dogs who need a little extra time Mika could become the most rewarding companion you could ever wish for.
