Our Heroes at the Great Birmingham 10K and Half Marathon
At Birmingham Dogs Home, we are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of our dedicated supporters who took on the Great Birmingham 10K and Half Marathon on Sunday, May 5th. This year’s event was particularly challenging due to the unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures climbing to 18 degrees, but our team of runners showed remarkable perseverance and spirit.
Among the participants were Kaitlyn, a canine carer at Birmingham Dogs Home; BBC WM reporter Beccy Wood; Sophie Bridger; and our youngest competitor, 10-year-old Keira, all of whom took on the 10K run. In the half marathon, we had Lewis, Chris, Andrew, and Rachel, each determined to make a difference for our homeless dogs.
The day was tough, but each runner had trained hard to ensure they were at their fittest, all with the goal of making our dogs proud. Their journeys to the finish line were unique and inspiring, showcasing their dedication and commitment to our cause. Collectively, they raised an incredible £3,300 for the dogs in our care.
A special shout-out goes to our very own Rachel Frost, who took on the half marathon dressed as a hot dog! Yes, you heard that right – a hot dog! Despite the heat, Rachel’s sheer dedication shone through, and her playful costume highlighted her passion for our dogs. She believes that challenging herself more helps raise greater awareness and donations for our cause.
“It's a great event which helps all the dogs in their care but also helps me get fit too! It's a fantastic team effort and I love all the support we get too” Sophie

Kaitlyn, Beccy, Sophie, and Keira all excelled in the 10K run, showing what true commitment looks like. Keira, our youngest competitor, once again demonstrated her incredible spirit and love for our furry friends.
Lewis, Chris, Andrew, and Rachel, who took on the half marathon, showed exceptional endurance and strength. Their efforts were nothing short of heroic, pushing through the warm temperatures to complete the race for a cause they deeply care about.
We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our runners. Their hard work, determination, and compassion are truly inspiring, and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts. The funds they raised will go a long way in helping us provide the best care for our homeless dogs, ensuring they find the loving homes they deserve.
To our amazing team of runners, thank you for your dedication and for making such a significant impact. Your support means the world to us and our dogs, and we are so grateful for everything you have done.
