Get out, explore and make memories together this half term
Half term is the perfect excuse to get outdoors, stretch your legs and spend some quality time with your four-legged friends. Whether you’re looking for scenic countryside walks or something a little closer to home, the West Midlands has so much to offer for families and dog lovers alike.
Here are a few of our favourite spots to explore…
Lickey Hills Country Park
A firm favourite for a reason, the Lickey Hills offer stunning views, open space and plenty of woodland trails to explore.
Why it’s great:
- Wide open areas for dogs to enjoy (with lead-friendly zones too)
- Easy paths for children and families
- A mix of short strolls or longer hikes depending on your energy levels
- Cafe on site (at the visitors Centre) with children’s play area
Stop off: The on-site café is dog-friendly outside and perfect for a well-earned coffee and cake.

Cannock Chase
If you’re after a proper adventure, Cannock Chase is ideal. With miles of trails, it’s perfect for burning off energy (for both you and your dog!).
Why it’s great:
- Endless walking routes through forest and heathland
- Family-friendly trails and play areas
- Great for more active dogs
Stop off: Birches Valley Visitor Centre has a café and facilities, with plenty of dog-friendly outdoor seating.

Malvern Hills
For breathtaking views and a bit of a challenge, the Malvern Hills are hard to beat.
Why it’s great:
- Incredible scenery across the countryside
- A real “adventure” feel for families
- Ideal for older children and energetic dogs
Top tip: Some routes are steep, so sturdy shoes (and lots of treats!) are a must.
Stop off: The town of Great Malvern has plenty of dog-friendly cafés and pubs to refuel afterwards.

Inner-City Adventures (Perfect for Little Legs!)
You don’t always have to travel far to enjoy a great walk…
Cannon Hill Park
A brilliant option for families, with flat paths, open green spaces and a playground.
- Easy walking routes for children
- Plenty of space for picnics
- Dog-friendly café areas nearby but also the MAC is in the park with seating outside.

Birmingham Canal Network
A hidden gem for a relaxed stroll, the canals offer peaceful routes right through the city.
- Flat, pram-friendly paths
- Great for shorter, calmer walks
- Lots of dog-friendly cafés and pubs along the way

A Gentle Reminder
Wherever you choose to explore this half term, please remember:
- Keep dogs under control and on lead where required
- Clean up after your dog
- Be mindful of wildlife and other visitors
