Little Miracles Appeal

Safe starts for Mums and their pups

Will you help us to keep homeless Mums and their newborn pups safe, by supporting the Birmingham Dogs Home Little Miracles Appeal?

Too many dogs in the Midlands are being abandoned to fend for themselves. This includes a rising number of “Mums-to-be” who are being dumped when they are at their most vulnerable. Here at Birmingham Dogs Home, we have seen a dramatic increase in cases of female pregnant dogs arriving at our rescue centres over the last eighteen months.

So much so, that we desperately need to create “whelp-ing units” where Mums can safely have their pups in a protective and calm environment.

18 Mums gave birth in our care in 2023 and 3 litters have already been born at BDH in 2024.

We need the help of local dog lovers like you to raise £50,000 to create these whelping spaces

£40

£40 can help us to keep young pups safe. Pups can get squashed under Mums when they roll against the walls. By fitting special spaces inside the whelping units, there will always be safe spaces for them to have room to breathe and wriggle

£22

£22 can help us to fit each whelping area with essential waterproof flooring. Lots of puppies means lots of poop! Regular cleaning helps to keep both Mums and pups healthy and infection free

£12.50

£12.50 can help us to keep tiny vulnerable puppies warm and cosy with retractable infrared heating lamps

Puppy Cam

On the 4th June we held our very first live puppy cam in our ‘Real Life Room’ to launch our Little Miracles Appeal. Have a watch to see what our latest litter of puppies got up to – they are too cute!

Patsy's story

We didn’t know Patsy was pregnant when she first came to us with puncture wounds to her body and neck. She started to show signs, and after a few weeks in our care she gave birth to her pups here at our rescue centre.

Patsy struggled with parenthood initially but with support from our team, which included hand-rearing the three weakest pups, she soon became a loving Mum. Her six puppies soon gained weight and are all doing well and hoping to find new homes.

With your help, we can give every pup the very best possible start.

Every life saved is a little miracle
