Our Mission

Birmingham Dogs Home has been rescuing, reuniting and rehoming dogs for almost 130 years. Our charity cares 24 hours a day, every day of the year for stray, abandoned and relinquished dogs from across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire.

We work with nine local authorities across the Midlands who trust us to deliver the best possible care to over 2,000 dogs every year at our rescue centres near Solihull and Wolverhampton. As one of the region’s oldest and best loved charities we are committed to lead the way for animal welfare in the Midlands, providing the very best level of care for every dog that needs us and support and advice to their adopters and future families.

How the adoption process works

Browse through the dog profiles online or visit one of our centres during our opening hours, to see dogs that are currently available for adoption.

Check to see if they are suitable for your family and life-style and read about their character, needs and medical history.

If you are interested in finding out more about one of our dogs please complete the online adoption enquiry form (you must be 18 or over to apply). If you are visiting in person, you will be asked to complete an adoption enquiry form before looking around the kennels.

If you do not wish to complete an online application, and are unable to visit, please call our rehoming team and they will complete an adoption enquiry with you over the phone.

We may receive a number of enquiries about any one of our dogs. Our rehoming team will look at every application and make the best match to suit each dog. It may be that the dog you have enquired about is matched with another potential adopter. If this is the case we will keep you updated and we can keep in touch to let you know straightaway when more dogs become available on our website if you would like us to.

How much will it cost?

It costs between £250 and £400 to adopt a Birmingham Dogs Home dog. All of these funds are used to help run our charity and enable us to help more dogs in need of our care.

Card payment preferred for all adoption fees.

Why do we charge a fee to rehome a dog?

While a dog is at Birmingham Dogs Home, he or she is given all the care they need including food, medical treatment and TLC.

It costs on average £100 per week for every dog in our care and for many that need medical treatment this cost is much higher.

The adoption fee goes some way towards these costs.

In all cases, before a dog is rehomed, the following will be completed:

A health assessment by our vet
Behaviour assessments by our staff
We also provide home visits and provide advice to check you have everything you need
We can provide help and advice after your adoption and support you through your journey together whenever you need us.
