Our Story

Established in 1892, Birmingham Dogs Home has been serving the community of the West Midlands for generations.

Our charity’s history is interwoven with decades of change for our region as we have provided a vital service through eras of change, surviving two World Wars, times of economic hardship and even a pandemic!

Our services and care has grown and developed to reflect the world we are all living and working in, putting dog welfare at the heart of everything we do.

Throughout our history we have always relied on the generosity of dog loving benefactors and supporters to help us to survive, and thrive.

Today we are well established as one of the Midland’s oldest and best loved charities and every day we strive to provide very highest levels of animal welfare in the region.

Our 130th birthday is marked by the opening of our new in-house veterinary clinic, helping us to provide the highest levels of medical care to every dog that needs care and support, until we can find them their fur-ever homes and a second chance of happiness.

Your Story

Every person and family who has supported us and adopted a dog from us is part of our history.

We share generations of stories and memories about our beloved pets and we want to share them together in this, our 130th year.

Please use this virtual  “Celebration Wall”  page to upload a photo of your beloved dog (past or present) and share a few memories about what they mean to you.

You can upload your photo and story to our “Celebration Wall” at no cost. If you would like to make a donation it will be gratefully received and help us to keep more tails wagging as we continue to help every dog that needs care in 2022.

We do not receive any government funding so are entirely reliant on the generosity of kind supporters and adopters like you to be able to continue helping local dogs in need.
